 The GB National Alpine Championships gets under way in Meribel, France, Monday March 31st with the compulsory downhill training session before the race proper on the Tuesday. At least it does for all but one of the racers. A young 17 year old British girl, Sega Fairweather, who has travelled all the way from the US especially to take part, is not a little concerned as to whether she should be in the start gate for tomorrow’s downhill training run, thanks both to Air France and, in no small part, to the British Ski Federation, Snowsport GB! ... |

 Due to warm weather and fresh snow covering the treacherous "Stelvio" course, the men's training run planned for Tuesday had to be cancelled in the morning - and so also the men's downhill race scheduled for Wednesday. This helped Switzerland's Didier Cuche secure his second consecutive downhill World Cup title - with a lead of only five points over USA's Bode Miller, the winner at Kvifjtell. |

Formigal: World Junior Champs conclude with GS |

The FIS Alpine Junior World Championships concluded Friday in Formigal with the giant slalom races for both women and men. After a day of rain and fog Thursday, the sun returned to shine on the young racers before their return trip home.
In the women's giant slalom, Anna Fenninger of Austria, silver medalist in the super-G in the opening race, returned to the podium as winner after she had been 4th in downhill and 8th in slalom. With that, she also took the victory in the combined... |

 The men's downhill on Tuesday was the third competition at the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Formigal (Spain). In a very tight race, the gold went for 20-year-old Hagen Patscheider of Italy who was just one hundredth of a second faster than the silver medalist Eian Sandvik of Norway. 17-year-old Jonas Fravi of Switzerland claimed the bronze medal, 0.28 behind Patscheider... |

Gala Dinner supports Snowsport Athletes Quest for Glory |

London’s Dorchester Hotel played host to the Snowsport GB Gala Dinner on 12 February, where 300 guests attended the prestigious event. The charity ball was organised to raise funds for the British Alpine Ski and Snowboard teams to assist in their quest for glory at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. On the second day of competition in the FIS Alpine Junior World Ski Championships 2008 in Formigal, Ilka Stuhec of Slovenia claimed the gold medal in the ladies' downhill. Lara Gut of Switzerland captured the silver while the super-G gold medalist Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany added a bronze to her medals collection.
