"Budding Champions!" - PROJECT 2008
|
It's tough for young British ski racers to get to the snow to train. These kids sacrifice Christmas, February and Easter holidays to try to compete with their Alpine counterparts. Sometimes part of the summer and November half-term too. It costs a fortune. They get up at the crack of dawn, and train in all weathers. It's a dangerous sport, but they love it, they are determined, and they can be winners - with our help!
We can't hope to compete with the Austrians, the French, the Americans, we hear you say? Tell that to Alain and Noel Baxter, Finlay Mickel, Chemmy Alcott, James Leuzinger! It can be done - in fact it has already, even if Alain was robbed of his Olympic bronze in 2002.
MySnowSports hopes to play a small part in producing the next generation of champions. Our goal is to make this training programme an annual project, gradually increasing the numbers of sponsorees. |

The project will provide:
-
free accommodation for a "budding champion" for two weeks - Feb 2007 half-term holiday,
-
free board,
-
free training with the Les Arcs ski racing club, one of France's top race clubs,
-
a morning’s skiing with the 1998 Olympic Downhill gold medalist, Jean-Luc Crétier,
-
free Paradiski lift pass,
-

Selections will be made based on a combination of promise shown through previous results, as well as enthusiasm for the project demonstrated by the athlete in the letter of application. The shortlisted racers will be asked to provide a letter from a coach in support of their candidacy at a later date.
In 2004/5 the Les Arcs club finished the season as France’s no. 1 ski racing club, 2nd in 2005/6. Performance is measured by AFESA, the French Ski Coaches Association, according to points scored from children I racers right up to World Cup level.
Accommodation will be in Bourg Saint Maurice itself, with access to the Les Arcs slopes by funicular in 8 minutes, and training around the 420 kms of pistes comprising the Paradiski domain.
Sponsors - please support us by helping to fund our future Olympic champions. Get in touch via the Contact Form and let us know how you can help... or just to pass on encouragement and support for our efforts. Thanks!!
